All about the Earrings ..

I have been making Jewellery most of my adult life, so have used a lot of different materials, from resin when a child as a Christmas present for my 9th birthday, to polymer clay in my teens (not as nice as the polymer clay we now use!!), to using crushed glass fritt in enamelling and using copper as the base. As well as dabbling with using Silver clays when they came onto the market.

I am now dabbling again, this time with ceramic porcelain clay. I have played with this medium before, but I now have an intention in my work. Whereas before it was just go with whatever the class was making. I now have plans and also a little experimentation too with colours, shapes and styles. These take a lot longer to finalise though as I don't have a kiln and have to rely on a 3rd party to fire them and guide me on what to do next. But I am learning and growing in my knowledge too.

I have also kept up-to-date with the different brands of polymer clay and atm, my favourite is Cernit and Sculpey. I really don't like Fimo after using these other brands of clay, as it just did not allow me to do what I wanted. I like to make canes so that I can replicate a collection in the future if needed. So my catalogue of techniques and styles continues to grow and expand.

So the reason for this blog, my observations about what is trending atm on social media. Earrings seem to the trend for the day for the last few months. Now I love me a nice dangly earring, like anyone so I have no problem with this trend at all. But they were starting to look the same, same shapes, same colours etc.

I decided to look for something a bit different and once I have found out how to make the different shapes for cutters, with massive help from my son. I then started 3D printing my own shaped cutters and voila, it opened up so many possibilities and my imagination just had a field day!!

So keep your eyes peeled for more intricate and unusual shaped jewellery pieces, in all sorts of materials on my Jewellery page.

I am also resin coating the polymer clay pieces to add shine and strength too. It really brings out the detail and especially if there are mica powders or metallics used, that would otherwise be lost without the shine that resin brings to the table.

The images here are some of my recent pieces, I will continue to add more collections as soon as they are ready and have been photographed.

Have a fab Friday everyone!!

Susey ..
